Network Architecture

A simple 10Gbit/s fiber architecture built around MikroTik routing and Ubiquiti switching. The three switches are connected in a daisy chain via SFP+ fiber, carrying VLAN 10, 20 and 30 across the complete backbone.

Internet & Routing

The 10Gbit/s Init7 Fiber7 connection terminates directly on the MikroTik CCR2004. The router handles routing, firewalling and dual-stack IPv4 / IPv6 connectivity. the magic stuff happens here...

10G Daisy Chain

Three Ubiquiti USW-Pro-XG-8-PoE switches form the switching backbone. Each switch is linked to the next using a 10Gbit/s SFP+ fiber connection. VLANS are created on Ubiquiti and propagated to all switches. All switches support PoE, powering devices throughout the home.

VLAN Trunk

All inter-switch fiber links operate as 802.1Q trunks. VLAN 10, 20 and 30 are therefore available on every switch throughout the network.

Notes

This architecture was designed with simplicity, performance and reliability in mind. The complete backbone runs at 10Gbit/s and uses SFP+ fiber connections between the router and all switches. Although I know that daisy-chaining stuff isn't probably the nicest idea (for various reasons!), I kept it that way, because my cabling design at home is based on this daisy chained design.
